This workshop is perfect for absolute beginners or those who have taken previous art classes and want to continue their artistic journey. Let your imagination loose and brush up on your creative side in a stimulating art class at Dacia Gallery.
Workshop Description: This introductory two-day workshop will focus on a single portrait of the human figure from the waist up under a strong light source. Using both centuries old and modern techniques, each student will utilize the figure and the surrounding environment to execute a single finished painting. Historical precedent for the project will be discussed in detail, as well as a discussion on the topic of figuration and chiaroscuro in the 21st Century.
What to Expect: Our class will cover color, form, composition, and value with a brief individual lecture about each of these formal elements. Every consecutive stage of the painting process will be explained from the underpainting to the complete image. Painters of all experience levels are welcome and encouraged to join the class. For beginners a canvas size of 24 by 36 inches is recommended for the project. The instructor Lee Vasu, will work with each individual student instructing them through the process.

Lee Vasu: is an Artist, Curator and the Founder of Dacia Gallery. Born in Sibiu, Romania in 1979, Vasu spent his adventurous childhood in Transylvania drawing and painting. Inspired by the stunning mosaics, frescos, and the mystical sacred Icons of the Byzantine Churches of his native land, Vasu formed a unique artistic vision of the timelessness and power of art that could enlighten and inspire generations. In 1990, Vasu moved to the United States with his family and continued to study art. He received a BA in History and Art from Kent Sate University and a Masters Degree in Arts Administration and Museum Science from the University of Akron, to further pursue his curatorial passion. Following his studies, Lee represented Romania and the United States at the European House of Arts and held his first solo exhibition at the Academy of Arts and Sciences in Bucharest. Additionally, Vasu participated in group and solo exhibitions in France, Germany, Romania and the United States, his work can be found in numerous public and private collections. His passion for art enabled him to curate exhibitions nationally and internationally, which inspired him to establish Dacia Gallery in New York City.
