Dacia Gallery proudly presents “Figure, Fashion and Fame" a recent works Solo Exhibition by Amy Whitman.

Amy Whitman: (b. Hanover, PA ,1963) is a mostly self taught artist who primarily focuses on contemporary figurative art. After early careers as a kindergarten teacher, pediatric therapist, and raising her family, she studied art & design at Washington University in St. Louis, MO and the Visual Arts Center in Summit, NJ. Her rich artistic background includes work as a muralist and calligrapher. She was also a docent at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis and the Pulitzer Arts Foundation. Her work has been shown in juried exhibitions and is held by private collectors from the midwest to the east coast. Amy lives and works in Mountain Lakes, NJ.

I am enamored with the human figure and portraiture and the endless possibilities of the subject. I love exploring ways to twist and turn traditional representations into something new. I work with pen and ink, paint and/or paper collage to create images full of color and detail. Much of my work includes grand expressions of fashion, which I have always loved. I am drawn to the fantasy and aesthetic of garments, headpieces and the patterns of textiles used in couture. My goal is to create images that delight, provoke or simply make people see what they know in a different way.
