Rendering Her: A Portrait in Fragments is a poignant exploration of love, loss, and the boundaries between reality and imagination. Through a series of expressive, representational oil paintings, the artist delves into the intimate details of a girl who exists solely in the realm of possibility—a daughter never born but deeply felt. The exhibition unfolds progressively, beginning with a full portrait and moving closer into the nuances of her visage—eyes, lips, and skin—each canvas a meditation on memory, grief, and the yearning for connection. The realistic yet expressive style, combined with a palette that captures the warmth of flesh tones and the depth of dark eyes, invites viewers into a contemplative space. In this imagined intimacy, the audience is encouraged to reflect on their own experiences of loss and the faces that linger in memory, real or imagined. The collection serves as both a personal catharsis and a universal narrative of remembrance and the human desire to know and be known. |

ARTIST BIO | |
Allison Kroll is a contemporary figurative painter whose work navigates the emotional terrain of memory, intimacy, and imagined realities. Working primarily in oil, Kroll uses a representational yet expressive style to explore the quiet, often unspoken spaces of personal experience—particularly those shaped by absence, longing, and love. In Rendering Her: A Portrait in Fragments, Kroll presents a deeply personal series that blurs the line between the real and the imagined. Through these intimate portraits, the artist conjures the presence of a daughter who exists only in possibility—each canvas a tender act of remembrance and a visual meditation on grief, hope, and the desire to connect. Originally from Baltimore, MD, Kroll holds a BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art and an MFA from Queens College. Her work has been exhibited in notable museums and galleries all over the country and New York City, including the Steamboat Art Museum, Haggin Museum, the Tucson Desert Art Museum, the Salmagundi Art Club, and the Dacia Gallery among others. Her practice is rooted in storytelling, emotional honesty, and a belief in the transformative power of painting. Allison Kroll currently lives and works in New Jersey with her husband and children, where she continues to create work that invites viewers to linger in the spaces between what is seen, what is felt, and what is imagined. |
