Stephano Losi: Arid Rain - Solo Exhibition - Opening Reception: Thursday, May 16, 6:00 - 9:00pm. Exhibition Dates: May 12 - 31, 2013. Dacia Gallery is pleased to present “Arid Rain”, the second solo exhibition of works by Italian artist and poet Stefano Losi.  The author’s art project, developed between Milan, London, and New York since the early 1990's, uniquely combines on linen intense poetry in Latin and English and dramatic studies of the human figure in acrylic media, sands and oxidized metal minerals as iron, copper, bronze, titanium, and gold.  The main theme of the exhibition, the desperate existential unquietness inherent in the human condition, is captured by a new poetry volume that collects the author’s work of the last two years, introduced by a foreword of the renown historian and art critic Renato Miracco.  The book will be presented at the opening reception of May 16th. Patricia Watwood: Venus Apocalypse - Solo Exhibition - Opening Reception: Thursday, June 6, 6:00 - 9:00pm. Exhibition Dates: June 5 - July 7, 2013. Patricia is a contemporary figurative artist working in the classical tradition of oil painting. This style is Contemporary Classicism, which combines classical painting techniques within the language of representation. Her work prioritizes aesthetic principles, technical rigor, detailed draftsmanship, and balances experienced perception with design.  Watwood employs narrative structures like allegory and myth to illuminate meaning in our common experience.  Her figures convey our spiritual human presence and elicit an emotional connection with the viewer. Philosophically, the paintings reflect the artist’s search for meaning and her desire for spiritual connection with both subjects and viewers. For more information click, here.

Cameron Neilson - Solo Exhibition - Opening Reception: Thursday, April 18, 6:00 - 9:00pm. Exhibition Dates: April 17 - May 10, 2013. Dacia gallery proudly presents the first showing of Europe Straight Up, a solo show of photography by Cameron R Neilson.  Neilson singular voice redefines the concept of skyline as he turns his camera skyward, straight up, to photograph the open space between buildings, trees, lamps, and other terrestrially bound objects.  The interplay of these constructs and the open sky are surprising, arresting, and intriguing.  With each city viewed in this nearly objective way, comparisons and contrasts are seen which distinguish one city from one another in a more personally accessible way. Daniel Maidman: Blue Leah - Solo Exhibition - Opening Reception: Thursday, October 18, 6:00-10:00pm. Exhibition Dates: October 17 - November 2, 2012. Dacia Gallery proudly presents Blue Leah, a solo exhibition of oil paintings and drawings by Daniel Maidman. Maidman's Blue Leah cycle documents a crisis, and renewal, of faith in figurative painting. Re-examining his assumptions, Maidman stripped his work down to the roots of perception, interaction, and depiction. The figure emerges on a monumental scale, purified, new, frighteningly alone. And yet, within this solitude, humanism persists. Even under scouring, personality and emotion remain. The method of excavation of these plain truths bestows a profound sense of relief on encountering them in the work. Their persistence within the formalism of the context resolves the crisis of faith that inspired Blue Leah. For more information click, here.

Leah Yerpe: Infinitum - Solo Exhibition - Opening Reception: Thursday, September 6, 6:00-10:00pm. Exhibition Dates: September 5 - October 13, 2012. Dacia Gallery is pleased to present Infinitum, a solo exhibition of figurative drawings by Leah Yerpe. In her work, Leah decontextualizes the human figure in highly choreographed drawings that float effortlessly through space with elegance and grace.  Bodies are multiplied in different poses, twisting, floating and falling on a ground purged of contextualizing marks. She believes that art is an exploration of contradictions and raw emotions that need to communicate the intangible.  Her models are given free reign to move their bodies without direction in a sort of immediate, improvised dance.  This looseness contrasts with the fastidious technique of the artist, where elegance and grace is infused with subtle dissonance. An important part of the human condition is a desire for resolution, for a way to put the incongruities of life into order. Despite our efforts, sometimes the closer we seem to approach a conclusion, the more elusive it proves. Yet our perception is left a little richer for the struggle we envision in the drawings of Leah Yerpe.

Victoria Selbach: Grace in the Light - Solo Exhibition - Opening Reception: Thursday, August 2, 6:00 - 10:00pm. Exhibition Dates: August 1-30, 2012. Dacia Gallery is pleased to present ‘Grace in the Light’ a solo exhibition of works by conceptual realist painter, Victoria Selbach. Victoria’s figurative paintings explore the female form dressed in light and shadow. Although the mind is tuned to see the woman first and drawn to the human form, in these works the impact of the underlying abstraction, created by light, fights for dominance. Victoria conveys in her sensitive yet penetrating depiction's of beauty bathed in light an honest presence and a sense of knowing. Yet the juxtaposition of the dense recess of shadow draws our awareness to the truths that lie well beyond our current understanding. Victorias studio is in New York and her paintings have been shown in New York and across the country including works currently being exhibited in the Heckscher Museum of Art and the Butler Institute of American Art.

Dacia Gallery proudly presents Virtù the most comprehensive exhibition to date of sculptor Natalie Tyler’s work. Tyler explores the sculptural possibilities of traditional materials such as bronze and glass, using the materials to capture nature timeless in it’s stages of life. Groves of dying sunflowers cast in bronze, amber honey colored crystal wasp nests in larger than life glowing forms, and bronze bird nests floating throughout the gallery. She investigates plant, animal and insect architecture, using nests and the home as poetic metaphors to describe a deeper sense of being. Birth, growth, death and regeneration are threads that run through the work. She is continuing to create new bodies of work with energy and innovation.

Barbara Bachner: Circle of Life - Solo Exhibition. Guest Curator: Stefania Carrozzini - Opening Reception: Thursday, May 17, 6:00 - 10:00pm. Exhibition Dates: May 13 - June 1, 2012. Dacia Gallery is pleased to present “Circle of Life”, an exhibition of new work by Barbara L. Bachner, an abstract painter who transforms basic shapes and colors into powerful compositions, which convey enlightenment reached through an aesthetic experience. Lines, organic shapes and silhouettes of figures are part of the scene, equally weighted on the surface with other abstract elements. Paintings are fields where the action is controlled and balanced between rationality and emotion. Signs mingle, generating new and unusual forms of spatial assets. The pictures are floating worlds captured singularly by this artist’s eye and sensitive heart. The circle of life is a process of eternal return and Bachner’s works are evidence of this dynamism translated with total freedom of expression. Action in a painting establishes a vital relationship between the self, the world and matter. Its unrelenting spirit becomes aware of its strengths and expands the idea of infinity. As the voice speaks, ideas start taking shape in new ways. The framework is a battlefield where vicissitudes are interiorized, memories emerge and consciousness and unconsciousness pour forth. Bachner’s works communicate an existential pure energy. The fragments explode on the canvas as a symbol of original chaos and from here take new life.

Janet A. Cook : Power & Beauty - Solo Exhibition - Opening Reception: Thursday, April 26, 7:00 - 10:00pm. Exhibition Dates: April 25 - May 11, 2012. Dacia Gallery is pleased to present “Power and Beauty” a solo exhibition by Janet A. Cook. "Powerful, beautiful and timeless” is how J. A Cook describes the figure. For Cook the figure is an endless source of fascination and the most demanding of all subject matters. Her work is influenced by the artists from as long ago as the renaissance and mannerist periods right up to the current day graffiti artists working on the walls of New York City.  She combines the fluidity and movement from these old masters with a contemporary set of imagery that is not only from this world, but also from her imagination.  Abstraction, repetition, pattern and symbolism, are important components, but her ultimate goal is to intrigue and engage the viewer. Cook recently participated in a four-person invitational at the Trenton City Museum, NJ and was featured on NBC's 'Dateline' program, the 'Da Vinci Code'.  Her work was featured in the New York Times and reviewed in the Times of Trenton, NJ.

Claudia Trombin: Make a Wish - Solo Exhibition - Opening Reception: Wednesday, March 7, 6:00 - 10:00pm. Exhibition Dates: March 7 - 17, 2012. Dacia Gallery and Contaminate NYC is pleased to present “Make a Wish”, a solo-show by Italian artist Claudia Trombin. Through multi-media paintings, watercolors, and installations revisiting the fascinating and complex language of the unconscious, Claudia’s seductive yet unsettling creations aim to bewilder the viewer, generating doubts and questions, unleashing desires and dream-like visions. In her attempt to shape the invisible – emotions, feelings, fears, obsessions, reveries – she creates imaginary spaces, juggling reality and fantasy, the ordinary and the unique. Inspired by Surrealism principles and fascinated by psychoanalysis and archetypes nature, Claudia develops her artwork along ambivalent, symbolic, and philosophical themes. Dragonflies and dandelions, flowers composed of a seed head and hundreds of smaller florets, become her inspiration to materialize this process. Light metal filaments ending with corollas modeled as dragonfly wings spread from the seed head - a led lamp - symbol of energy and life that will extinguish with time. The wings, humans’ spiritual side, structured like a unique and delicate netlike grid, act like a DNA imprint embedded in our life essence, guiding our imagination and intuition. At death, like the dandelion florets, the light dies and the invisible product of our spirit leaves our corporeal body by detaching and spreading its wings to disseminate into the world.

Lacivious - Solo Exhibition - Opening Reception: Thursday, January 19, 6:00-10:00pm. Dacia Gallery is pleased to present “Lascivious” an exhibition of new works by Heather Morgan, a figurative painter whose sultry and damaged women cavort unrestrained through opulent settings with commanding self-possession. Here are lingerie and stockings galore. But these are no playthings. These women are performing their identities, and it is a tense and fevered display, aching with self-consciousness. Vivid and theatrical as these images are, the viewer is thrust into discomfiting intimacy with these defiant vixens. These works invite the viewer to look and to covet, presenting an alluring world that is also potent and seething.  Beauty quivers with pain and flaw in the distorted, luminous subjects that populate Morgan’s paintings.  The figures stretch out louche before the viewer and bravely offer themselves with a conflicting, penetrating gaze. These unflinching yet vulnerable pastel heroines become all the more unknowable, as they reveal themselves in their fractured splendor. Exhibition Dates: December 15 -  January 15, 2012.
